LaGrange came back to upset No. 11 Maryville 101-98 in overtime on Feb. 12 to pick up a key USA South win. The Panthers improved to 12-10 and 7-2 in conference play. The Scots (18-2, 8-1 USA South) suffered their first conference loss and had a 14-game winning streak snapped.
Senior Kyle Brown had a double-double to lead the Panthers, tying his career high with 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Brown had 17 of his points in the second half. Bershard Edwards had 17 points, Camerin Lyons 16, Zac Hill 15, and Micah Paulk 11 off the bench.
Maryville led 54-39 five minutes into the second half. Over the next 10 minutes, the Panthers stormed back, outscoring the Scots 38-16 to take a 77-70 lead. Brown's layup gave LC the seven-point lead with 4:48 remaining.
The Panthers kept the lead and were up 87-85 after Hill made a free throw with 24 seconds left. Maryville sent the game into overtime when Kaleb Powell scored on a layup with eight seconds showing on the clock.
In the overtime, Brown had back-to-back baskets to put LC up 93-89. JR Sanders hit a pair of free throws as the Scots reclaimed the lead 94-93 with 2:11 left. Hill scored twice on the next two possessions for the Panthers to put them ahead to stay, 97-94. Gabe Cofield made four straight free throws to hold the Scots at bay and ice the game.
