Baseball: Bell, Reed have a pair of hits each in Panthers' game at Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. - Casey Bell and Jim Reed each had two hits as LaGrange took on Emory at Chappell Park on Wednesday. The host Eagles (6-2) downed the Panthers (0-4) 10-4.

Bell and Reed led the Panthers hitting attack which finished with seven hits. Reed had a double included in his two hits and scored a run. Bell also scored a run, while Adam Terrinoni had an RBI double.

Cole Anderson started and was the first of four pitchers in the game for the Panthers. Anderson pitched 2-1/3 innings, giving up three runs, two of which were earned. The Panthers had seven errors in the game, leading to four unearned runs.

Tylor Brooks (0-1) took the loss. He followed Anderson and allowed four runs in 1-2/3 innings. Patrick Riley gave up three runs; only one earned in two innings. Josh Bricker closed out the game for the Panthers with two scoreless innings.

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first without benefit of a hit. Reed was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.  He went to third when Ty Edwards reached on an error putting down a sacrfice bunt.

Reed scored the game's first run on Cain Sauls' fly out to center field. Edwards later scored on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning.

Emory came back with two runs in the second and another in its of the third to go up 3-2. The Panthers pushed across a run in the fourth to tie the game.

Sauls led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on Chris Laye's sacrifice bunt. He took third as Bell reached on an error and scored when Terrinoni reached on a fielder's choice.

The Eagles answered with a run in their of the fourth to retake the lead. They tacked on three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to build a 10-3 lead.

The Panthers closed out the scoring in the eighth. Bell kept the inning going with a two-out single and came around to score when Terrinoni doubled down the left field line.

The Panthers host Bates (Maine) in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field on Thursday at 6 p.m. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
