Baseball: Huntingdon takes two from Panthers in USA South doubleheader

Huntingdon took two from LaGrange in a USA South doubleheader Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. 

The Hawks (6-3, 6-3 USA South) downed the Panthers 10-3 and 11-4. The losses left the Panthers 2-5 and 2-4 in conference play.

Zach Tatham (0-1) started the first game for the Panthers. He pitched 5-1/3 innings, allowing eight runs, only two of them earned. Tatham was followed by Daniel Garrett, Josh Bricker and Jake Fussell.

Huntingdon led 2-0 after four innings. The Panthers tied the game with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Chad Pigg led off with a single. He came around to score on Jackson Patrick's RBI single. Patrick later scored on Casey Bell's two-out base hit to tie the game 2-2.

The Hawks needed only three hits to score six unearned runs in the sixth inning. They took advantage of five errors by the Panthers in the inning.

The Panthers' final run of the game came in the eighth. Ty Edwards led off with a single and moved around to third on Bell's double. Edwards came home as Cain Sauls grounded out.

Bell and Patrick had four of the Panthers' seven hits in the game. 

In the second game, Huntingdon built a 10-1 lead heading into the Panthers' half of the fifth inning.

The Panthers got an RBI single from Alec Redden and a two-run double from Chris Laye to make it 10-4.

Zach English (0-1) threw the first two innings for the Panthers, allowing two runs. Tyler Brooks, Jesse Ford and Blake Schuck followed English.

The Panthers had eight hits in the second game. Edwards, Redden and Sauls each had two hits.

The Panthers play a three-game USA South series at Maryville beginning next Friday.
