Baseball: Six-run first inning sends Birmingham-Southern past Panthers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Seventh-ranked Birmingham-Southern used a six-run first inning in beating LaGrange 10-6 on Tuesday at Striplin Field. The Panthers are now 6-6 overall. BSC improved to 3-2.

The host Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning. Coston Anderson (0-1) started and took the loss for LC. Kolby Skolnik allowed four unearned runs in four innings, as the Panthers had five errors in the game. Zach English threw the final 3-2/3 innings and now has not allowed an earned run in 15 innings this season. He leads the team with nine appearances.

Jack Layrisson and James Poropatic each had solo home runs in the game, the Panthers' first two home runs of the season. McKinley Erves and Austin Jones each had two hits and scored two runs. Erves had an RBI triple included in his hits.

The Panthers open their USA South schedule with a three-game series at Covenant beginning Friday.
