LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 2/10 LaGrange (14-6, 3-0 CCS) baseball is right back in action as they host Covenant (7-7, 2-0 CCS) in a battle of Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) undefeateds in a three-game set from March 24-25. First pitch of the opener is set for 7 p.m. under the lights on Friday, March 24 with the final two games set for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.
LC comes in having had their season-high six-game winning streak snapped but it took the top team in the nation, Birmingham-Southern, to do it – and only by a narrow 6-5 score. Prior to that they had knocked off Westfield (20-3 on 3/11), Chicago (7-1 on 3/12), Oglethorpe (8-2 on 3/14) and swept Berea (3/18-19) by scores of 6-2, 10-9 (10 Inn.) and 11-6.
The Scots come in having won four of their last five, including an abbreviated CCS sweep of Huntingdon (5-3 and 10-4 on 3/18). Most recently they slipped past Oglethorpe by a 3-2 score on March 21.
SERIES HISTORY
LaGrange holds a 22-15 advantage over Covenant in an all-time series dating to 2011, including a series best five-game win streak from 2016-18. The Panthers have currently won five of the last six meetings with the lone blip coming in a 13-12 shootout on March 26, 2022. They would go on to win the final game of that three-game series 18-13 that same day before downing the Scots 11-2 on May 6 in the USA South Tournament.
