FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - LaGrange rallied to win the first game of a USA South doubleheader as Methodist took the second game to gain a split. The Panthers (6-16, 5-9 USA South) won 4-3 in Game 1, then lost Game 2 11-6.
The Panthers overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first game. AnnaLisa Chavez's sacrifice fly got LC on the board in the fourth inning.
LaGrange took the lead with three runs in the sixth inning. Adrienne Little's two-run double tied the game. Amber Arnold drove in Little for the go-ahead run.
Chelsea Twardoski went the distance on the mound to get the win. She scattered seven hits, giving up only two after the second inning.
The Panthers finished the gam with 14 hits. Taylor Tallent had three, while Little, Emily Barrs, McKenzie Brunel, and Kelsey Dietz all had two.
In the second game, Methodist built a 9-2 lead after five innings. The Panthers got four runs in the sixth to make it 9-6, but the Monarchs added two insurance runs in their half of the sixth.
LaGrange had 11 hits in the game. Barrs, Brunnel, Tallent and Sydney Hodorff all had two each. Hodorff had a double included in her two hits. Grayson West had a pinch-hit two-run single.
The Panthers play at Meredith on Sunday in a USA South doubleheader.
