Women’s basketball set to play in the Covenant Classic

The Panthers travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga. to take on Asbury University and Regent University this weekend (Dec. 1-2). The first game is at 7 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 1) against Asbury. LC then faces Regent at 12 p.m. the following day.

The teams

The Panthers are 4-2 and most recently lost to Oglethorpe 82-73 (Nov. 21). Junior guard Zyhia Johnson leads LC in scoring with an incredible 21.2 points per game. Freshman forward Taylor Smith has also made a huge impact for the Panthers this season. The Birmingham, Ala. native secured her first LC double-double in the 80-63 Principia win after scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds (Nov. 18). Asbury is 4-3 and is coming off of a 77-66 win over CCS member Piedmont University (Nov. 26). In the four games she has played, Trinity Shearer has averaged a team-high 12.8 points and five steals per game. In Asbury's most recent game, she led the team with 16 points and four steals. Regent is 2-4 and is coming off of a 64-53 loss to Ferrum College (Nov. 19). Desiree Cross leads Regent in scoring with 15.4 points per game. 

The series

The one and only time the Panthers have faced Asbury, LC won 78-70 (Dec. 3, 2022). With Asbury joining the CCS next year, both teams will begin playing each other more often. LC has not played Regent in recent history.

When and where 

Both games take place at Covenant College on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2). The Panthers take on Asbury at 7 p.m. (Dec. 1) and then Regent at 12 p.m. (Dec. 2). Both games can be streamed here.
