Panthers set to battle the Blazers of Belhaven

Women's basketball hosts CCS opponent Belhaven this Wednesday (Jan. 24), at 5 p.m. 

The teams

The Panthers are 12-4 (6-1 CCS) and are coming off of a 101-50 win over the Hawks (Jan. 20). In that game, Zyhia Johnson scored a team-high 23 points, while shooting 54% from the field and 57% from beyond the arc. This season, the 2022-23 CCS First Team All-Conference selection (Johnson) has averaged an incredible 18.9 points per game, while shooting 49% from the field and 35% from three. The Blazers are 4-12 (3-5 CCS) and most recently lost to Berea 76-58 (Jan. 21). Ebony Gayden leads Belhaven in scoring with 15.5 points scored per game.

Recent history

The Panthers have played Belhaven one time already this season. In that game, LC won 95-74 (Jan. 2). Zyhia Johnson scored a team-high 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds and seven steals. Taylor Smith secured a double-double against the Blazers, after scoring 22 points and adding 11 rebounds to the stat sheet. Ashanti Lipscomb led the Blazers in scoring with 21, while shooting an impressive 78% from the field and 72% from three.
