Meet-Your-Panther Series: Maurie White of Women’s Soccer

Message from Assistant Director of Sports Information Trevor Wenners: Interested in getting to know the ins and outs of what make your favorite LaGrange College student-athletes tick? Starting on July 31, we will be unveiling our Meet-Your-Panther series. Our dedicated and loyal fans will be able to get an up-close look at the personalities and dreams of our student-athletes.

Maurie White proved that she could compete with the best.

The rising sophomore goalkeeper on the LaGrange College women's soccer team entered in a relief role with 31:15 left in regulation at Maryville on Oct. 27. She turned away a career-high, 9-of-11 shots against a loaded Scots' lineup in the regular-season finale during her rookie season.

The Panthers lost the game to Maryville, but White proved that she will be a force to be reckoned with moving forward.

"My favorite memory as a Panther during my rookie season was playing in the soccer game against Maryville," said White. "This was the first game that I truly got to show my abilities. I was proud of myself."

The LaGrange native appeared in six games in net during the 2019 season, making five starts. White earned her first-collegiate win, along with a shared shutout, in a 4-0 triumph at Talladega on Sept. 8. Ten days later, the young woman recorded her first-career individual shutout during a 4-0 victory over Talladega at Panther Field.

"From the first practice of Maurie's first year with us, I knew she had something special," said rising junior captain and midfielder Sydney Dailey. "She has an amazing attitude and tries her absolute best in everything that she does. She makes everyone on the team strive to be better. She is incredibly talented at the goalkeeper position. Maurie never gives up, no matter what, and it is inspiring to play alongside her."

The accountancy major finished the season with a 2-2 record, boasting a team-best 1.46 goals-against average.

White took some time to speak about her pregame rituals and goals for the future during a Q&A segment.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of LaGrange College?

A: My favorite thing about LaGrange is that I get to see my friends anywhere I go. The size of the campus makes it easy to hang out with everyone.

Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration at LaGrange?

A: My biggest inspiration at LaGrange is professor Gus McMurray. He always recognizes my potential and challenges me in the classroom and with life lessons.

Q: What are your career aspirations?

A: I want to work in accounting for a large company near Atlanta, Georgia, or Charlotte, North Carolina. I love the MLS, so it would be awesome to be able to work for a sports' team in the league.

Q: Would you rather play in warm or cold weather?

A: Warm.

Q: Panthers' Twitter or Instagram?

A: Instagram.

Q: Favorite spot on campus?

A: The 24, which is the room in the library with Starbucks.

Q: What is your favorite pregame meal?

A: A granola-protein bar or dry cereal.

Q: What are your pregame superstitions?

A: I must listen to certain songs, especially, "The Way Life Goes" by Lil Uzi Vert, every game before I get on the field. Also, I must do certain drills.

Q: If you could meet one person in the world, who would it be and why?

A: Maggie Nichols would be the one person that I would pick. She is brave, confident and humble.
