Although the Panthers lost the match 3-1, they forced Fort Valley St. to battle until the end.
The Panthers lost the first set, trading the lead back and forth multiple times until FVS pulled out a 27-25 tight win. The key player in the first set was Meredith Orton, who accounted for two kills, nine total attacks and nine digs. The second set of the match continued where the first set left off, with each team alternating the lead a few points at a time. The Panthers ended up losing 25-15, after FVS went on a ten-point run. The key to FVS winning in the second set was the 17-2 kill deferential. During the third set, the Panthers trailed throughout by a few points but never allowed FVS to get comfortable. Down 19-22, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run to win 25-22. The fourth set of the match continued to be competitive. Out of the gate, FVS took the lead but the Panthers continued to claw and fight. The team fell short, losing 25-21
Meredith Orton was the Panther MVP for today's match. She led the team in points (10), digs (17), kills (8) and was tied with other Panthers in assists (8) and aces (2).
Although the Panthers lost, the silver lining is that we had fewer attack errors, fewer service errors and the team put up a competitive fight throughout. The team heads to Atlanta tomorrow to face Oglethorpe University, at 2 p.m.
