Greensboro took the first of a three-game USA South weekend series from LaGrange, edging the Panthers 2-1 in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field on Friday.
The Panthers are 4-8 overall, while Greensboro improved to 8-6. Both teams are 4-6 in USA South games. The second game is Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
Drew Williamson (0-2) started and pitched into the sixth inning for the Panthers. He allowed two runs, only one was earned, while giving up six hits. Williamson walked three and struck out eight.
Tyler Brooks pitched the final 3-1/3 innings. He gave up only one hit and struck out five.
Greensboro led 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI single by Austin Catherina. The Pride added an unearned run in the fourth to up its lead to 2-0.
The Panther got one of the runs back in the sixth inning. Cody Muren reached second to lead off the inning after his fly ball was dropped for a two-base error. James Hall greeted reliever Christian Snider with a single to left as Muren moved up to third then scored as the throw from the outfield went into the Greensboro dugout.
The Panthers got the tying run on in the ninth inning as Grey Bittinger got a one-out pinch-hit single. A two-out error kept the innning going and pinch-runner Keith Sims moved over to third on a wild pitch. But Brian Robbett got the final out to record his fifth save of the game.
