LaGrange took the deciding game of its three-game series with Centre with a 9-1 win Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The second straight win upped the Panthers' record to 5-2. Centre is now 1-2.
The Panthers banged out 11 hits in the game. Jack Layrisson had three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs. Austin Jones had a pair of singles, while McKinley Erves had a double and Nick Fink drove in two runs with a hit.
On the mound, Austin Fain (2-0) threw seven strong innings. He allowed a run on five hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out five. Austin Perez and Travis Chaffin each had a scoreless inning of relief.
Layrisson and Jacob Gassert had run-scoring singles in the third inning to put LC up 2-0. The Panthers broke the game open with three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Fink had a two-run single in the sixth. Layrisson's double drove in two runs in the seventh and he closed out the scoring in the eighth with another RBI double.
The Panthers host Berry on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
