BEREA, Ky. - Austin Fain threw eight shutout innings to lead LaGrange to a 4-0 USA South win over Berea on Sunday. The victory completed a three-game sweep for the Panthers (17-12, 7-5 USA South) over the Mountaineers (2-23, 0-12 USA South).
Fain (3-3) scattered four hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out eight. Zach English threw a scoreless ninth inning to complete the Panthers' second shutout of the series and sixth of the season. McKinley Erves' RBI single in the fourth drove in the first run of the game. The Panthers picked up an unearned run in the sixth to go up 2-0. LC added two insurance runs in the eighth to make it 4-0. Erves scored as Jackson Patrick reached on an error and Dawson Weaver's third hit of the game drove in Grant Perry with the second run of the inning.
The Panthers play at Oglethorpe on Tuesday, then host Piedmont in a three-game USA South series starting Friday.
