LaGrange College held its first Team Pres vs. Team AD draft event Saturday afternoon at the Corn Auditorium inside the Lewis Library. The festivities were broadcasted on Panther Facebook and you can click the link above to see the full coverage.

Dr. Susanna Baxter is guiding Team Pres and Director of Athletics and Recreation Terlynn Olds is directing Team AD. Each leader was able to make seven selections, as the rest of the rosters will be filled in prior to the scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m. The location will be either Callaway Stadium or Panther Field and it will be announced on our Panther social media channels this week.

Team Pres won the coin toss and was able to draft the first overall pick in Offensive Coordinator Jarred Rutherford. Dr. Justin Thurman was selected by President Baxter in the second round. Thurman is LC's Faculty Athletic Representative, while also serving as an Associate Professor of English, Director of the Writing Center and Co-Director of the Ethos First Year Experience program.

The five student-athletes chosen by Team Pres were junior defensive lineman Joe Thomas, junior quarterback Shedrick Lindsey, sophomore defensive back Klynell Johnson, sophomore wide receiver Dana Lucas Jr. and freshman linebacker Hassan Tutson.

Thomas was selected to the 2019 USA South All-Conference second team, while Lindsey threw five TDs during the same year. During the 2019 season, Johnson totaled 29 tackles and Lucas Jr. made five tackles on special teams. Tutson earned All-Region second team laurels at Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Georgia.

Team AD's first pick was Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Kendall Todd. In the second round, Olds selected Dr. Melinda Pomeroy-Black, an Associate Professor of Biology.

The five student-athletes drafted by Team AD were freshman offensive lineman Quenton Green, junior tight end De'queze Fryer, sophomore defensive back DeMarques Densmore, sophomore linebacker Aaron Belt and freshman quarterback Damione Ward.

Green and Densmore played high school football at Mundy's Mill in Jonesboro, Georgia, and Pinson Valley (Alabama), respectively. Fryer made 11 catches for 217 yards during the 2019 season for the Panthers. Belt made 11 tackles and had an interception for LC in 2019. Ward is entering his first year as a Panther after a successful high school career at Clay-Chalkville in Pinson, Alabama, where he was a member of the National Honor Society.
