MONTGOMERY, Ala. – LaGrange (3-4, 0-2 CCS) men's tennis could not stave off Huntingdon (2-2, 1-0 CCS) as they fell by a 6-3 score in an NCAA Division III men's tennis match on Saturday, March 18.
After seeing the Hawks post an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles, freshmen Michael Strydom (Brits, South Africa) and Nic Bodin (Atlanta, Ga.) pulled out an 8-4 win at the two spot to even it at 1-1. The tandem of Clint Robinson and Lane Young, however, would send Huntingdon to singles play with a 2-1 lead as they knocked off seniors Al Robertson (Moreland, Ga.) and Luke Griffin (Atlanta, Ga.) by an 8-3 score.
HC would go up 3-1 behind a 6-1, 6-0 win by Zach Cox over freshman Kyle Moore (Sharpsburg, Ga.) at No. 3 before Robertson notched a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Cameron Reed at No. 2 to pull to within one. Strydom then battled Young for three sets at the top spot, falling 6-1 in the opener and taking the second 6-2 before eventually falling 6-2 in the decisive frame.
Bodin would then pull the Panthers to within 4-3 as he downed Prosser Crow 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 before Rowland Cobb put the match away with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over freshman Peyton Beasley at the six spot. Griffin would then battle Robinson at No. 4 before falling 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the day's most tightly contest match.
