ATLANTA, Ga. – Freshman pitcher Claire Chamberlain (Rome, Ga.) continues to rack up the honors as she has swept the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Softball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday, April 3.
Chamberlain produced one of the best games of her career against one of the top teams in the CCS, defeating a Belhaven (4/1) team that came in at 7-1 in the league.
She would be masterful, throwing seven scoreless innings for her 10th complete game in 11 outings. Chamberlain scattered four hits while striking out three to deliver a clutch 1-0 victory that saw her strand a runner on third following a one-out triple in the sixth and a runner on second with one out in the seventh.
On the year she is 6-5 with a 2.84 ERA with 53 strikeouts and just eight walks in 74 innings of work. She is also pitching a .262 opposing batting average to go with 10 complete games and a pair of shutouts.
She adds to her honors as she was named Rookie of the Week on February 21 and swept both Pitcher and Rookie honors on March 6 and is still the only Panther to earn those honors this season.
LaGrange and Chamberlain return to action on Friday, April 7 when they travel to Maryville for a doubleheader before traveling to Berea for a twin bill a day later. Those games are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
