ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Senior guard Jada Brown recorded a team-high 10 points and junior forward Karson Troth finished with a career and team-leading seven rebounds for the LaGrange College women's basketball team during an 84-47 setback to No. 9-ranked DePauw Monday at the McArthur Center on the campus of Eckerd College.
Freshman forward Bobbi Whitaker finished with career-highs of eight points and five rebounds, as she shot 3 of 5 from the field and 2 for 2 on free throws. Junior forward Breonna Glover shot 3 of 5 from the field, while scoring eight points and pulling down four boards.
Brown was 5 of 5 from the field and senior guard Jalaya Lewis recorded eight points in the first-ever meeting between the Panthers (7-5, 2-1 USA South) and Tigers (10-1, 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference).
DePauw raced out to an 11-0 lead 4:35 into the game, but the Panthers responded with an 8-2 surge. Junior guard Hayleigh Reeves pulled down an offensive rebound and set up Troth for a jumper, cutting the deficit down to 13-8 in the final minute of the first quarter.
Lewis brought the Panthers to within three points on a 3-point shot 3:13 into the second quarter. A driving layup by freshman guard Ema Turner trimmed the Tigers' advantage to 20-18 with four minutes left. DePauw concluded the half on a 12-4 run, taking a 32-22 lead into intermission.
The Panthers will compete against Division I Mercer during a noon exhibition game on Friday, Dec. 31, in Macon, Georgia.
