Sophomore Sydney Dailey recorded a five-point game and freshman goalkeeper Maurie White earned the shutout in net, as the LaGrange College women's soccer team extended its winning streak to four with a 4-0 win over Talladega on Wednesday at Panther Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Panthers freshman defender Jordan Alexis blocked a shot from the right side of the box 4:16 into the game.
  • During the 12th minute, the Panthers (5-3) had a strong scoring bid. Dailey placed a through ball to sophomore forward Dynasty Burchett on the right side of the box, but Maricela Saucedo turned the attempt aside for the Tornadoes (0-10).
  • Senior forward Olivia Braun drew a free-kick opportunity for LaGrange in the 24th minute with her shot forcing a handball. Dailey buried the free kick from just beyond the box over the Tornadoes' wall and into the back of the net with 23:59 expired, putting LaGrange in front, 1-0.
  • Sophomore forward Zoe Watts gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage during the 60th minute, beating the goalkeeper top-shelf on a penalty kick.
  • White (2-0) made a tremendous stop during the 69th minute with a diving save to her left on a point-blank opportunity off a corner kick.
  • Dailey gave her team a three-goal cushion with 15:37 remaining in the second half, picking the bottom-left corner from just beyond the box.
  • Sophomore midfielder Gracie Amonett ended the scoring with her first goal of the season during the 84th minute, burying a shot from the left side of the box off a touch pass by Dailey during a transition play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Panthers held a 33-8 advantage in shots and a 14-3 lead in shots on goal, while LaGrange attempted seven corner kicks.
  • White made three saves in the win, as she has now defeated Talladega twice this season with the first one occurring on Sept. 8.
  • Dailey leads the USA South Conference with five assists, while she sits in a tie for first with 13 points and sixth with four goals.
  • LaGrange has shutout four opponents this season, allowing only eight goals in eight games.

UP NEXT:

  • The Panthers will look to extend their winning streak to five with a noon matchup against Mary Baldwin on Saturday at Panther Field.
