The LaGrange College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback in USA South action to Brevard on Friday afternoon, as the Tornados scored a header goal in each half at Panther Field.

Panthers junior defender Taylor Hamm made her season debut, checking in during the 81st minute. A little over three minutes later, she drove a shot from distance, which nearly put LaGrange (6-6, 0-2 USA South) on the board but the attempt collided with the left post. Brevard improved to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2 in the USA South.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Brianna Link opened the scoring 13:26 into the game for Brevard, putting a header into the left side of the net off a cross from the right attacking side by Aliyah Vaughan.
  • During the 28th minute, Panthers freshman defender Katelyn Peters made a strong defensive stand in the box, utilizing a sliding tackle to poke the ball away from Link.
  • With 24:32 left in regulation, the Tornados extended their lead to two on a header goal from the middle of the box by Amy Juarez off a left-side corner kick by Abbie Petrosky.
  • LaGrange was on the attack with eight minutes left in regulation, as sophomore Sydney Dailey slid a pass over to sophomore Dynasty Burchett on the right attacking side. Burchett looped a cross into a dangerous area, but Brevard goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas was able to grab the pass before it reached sophomore Zoe Watts.
  • Panthers freshman goalkeeper Maurie White came up with an impressive stop in the 85th minute, turning aside a rocket off a free kick by Emma White.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Panthers led the shots category, 10-7, while the Tornados held a 6-4 lead in shots on goal.
  • Dailey attempted a game-high three shots with two being on target, while Watts finished with a pair of shots.
  • White (2-2-0) made four saves in net, as she has not given up more than two goals in any of her four collegiate starts.

UP NEXT:

  • LaGrange will be back in action with a 7 p.m. start on Saturday against USA South-foe Covenant at Panther Field.
