Message from Assistant Director of Sports Information Trevor Wenners: Interested in getting to know the ins and outs of what make your favorite LaGrange College student-athletes tick? Starting on July 31, we will be unveiling our Meet-Your-Panther series. Our dedicated and loyal fans will be able to get an up-close look at the personalities and dreams of our student-athletes.

Zoe Watts made an average first impression, right?

Only an unfair critic could make that assertion because the rising junior on the LaGrange College women's soccer team compiled a must-see collegiate debut. On Aug. 31, 2018, Watts factored into all five scores, with a nine-point performance, featuring four goals and an assist in a 5-0 triumph over Judson.

The forward was named USA South Rookie of the Week on Sept. 3, 2018. She led the team in points (16) and goals (7) during her rookie campaign. Watts exploded with a five-point effort on two goals and one assist during a 7-0 win at Sweet Briar on Sept. 23, 2018.

The nursing major looked for ways to improve as a sophomore, finishing with six goals and 12 points. The impressive young woman tallied a pair of four-point games, while scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-0 triumph over Judson on Oct. 22. She found the back of the net twice in wins over Talladega on Sept. 8 and Mary Baldwin on Sept. 21.

The Jackson, Georgia, native has been durable during her two-year run as a Panther, starting all 34 games. Watts has 13 goals, two assists and 28 points, which equates to an average of 0.82 points per game.

Watts talked about some fun facts about herself and looked ahead to the future in a Q&A segment.

Q: How excited are you to return to campus this fall?

A: I am thrilled to return to campus in the fall for many reasons. I am excited to start the nursing program.

Q: What have you learned about the LaGrange College community during this unprecedented time?

A: I have learned that it is LaGrange's best interest to ensure the safety of its students. The college has done a great job communicating with the students during this time.

Q: Once you get back on the soccer field, what are your anticipated emotions?

A: Once I get back on the field, I know that I will be overwhelmed with excitement to play again. My mindset that academics come first will not change.

Q: How are you advancing in your studies toward becoming a nurse?

A: This summer, I was able to take a certified-nurse-aide course, which gave me insight on the basic principles of care. During that time, I grew fonder of the idea about helping others.

Q: Why do you want to become a nurse?

A: I have chosen the profession of nursing because of the saying, "nurses inspire nurses." I wanted to express that same compassion and care through the field of nursing. I cannot wait for the opportunity to experience an internship.

Q: Who has been your favorite professor and why?

A: Dr. William Paschal has been my favorite professor at LaGrange. He is so passionate about what he teaches and goes above and beyond to make sure that the students are retaining the information.

Q: What is your favorite location on campus?

A: My room is my favorite spot on campus. I enjoy binge-watching shows and relaxing after class.

Q: If you could design the perfect day, what would it include?

A: My perfect day would have to start off with a big breakfast from IHOP, and then I would spend the rest of my afternoon on a warm beach.

Q: What is your go-to pregame meal and do you have any superstitions?

A: My pregame meal would have to be a soul-food meal. As far as superstitions, I have always believed that the placement of my socks will dictate how well I play. My left sock must be on the left foot and the right sock on the right foot.

Q: Who has been your heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic?

A: My parents have been my heroes these past few months. My mother is an essential worker and my father is a wonderful provider. Both of my parents have been working faithfully through this pandemic.
