Cross Country: Panthers compete in season-opening meet at Berry College Invitational

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The LaGrange College cross country team saw seven runners compete on Saturday at the season-opening Berry College Invitational in Mount Berry, Georgia.

Freshmen Kendal Clark and Logan Rutledge made their collegiate debuts for the Panthers, covering the 8-kilometer course in times of 33:48.1 and 35:37.8, respectively.

Junior Holly Moreland, a 2018 USA South All-Conference honorable mention team selection, competed in the 6 kilometer with a time of 31:23.2. She has finished in the Panthers' first slot in all 11 meets during her career.

"It has been well over a year since our team has traveled for a meet, so it was great to see the student-athletes compete against outside competition," said LaGrange College cross country head coach Jasen Jonus. "It was a solid first meet of the season. We have our eyes on making a strong impression at the 2021 USA South West Division Championship."

Sophomore Alex Whiten also competed on the women's side, as she clocked a time of 33:45.0 in the 6 kilometer. The Dallas, Georgia, native recorded a personal record of 28:15.3 in the 6 kilometer at the 2019 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional.

Junior Karli Whitaker, who was the Panthers' third-place finisher three times in 2019, cruised through the 6-kilometer course in a time of 34:24.0.

Senior captain Kyle Hildebrand and sophomore Malcolm Roberts tallied times of 48:59.3 and 51:52.4, respectively, in the 8 kilometer. Roberts and Hildebrand posted personal records in the 8 kilometer at the 2019 USA South Championship, with times of 34:16.64 and 40:56.73, respectively.

The Panthers will compete in the 2021 USA South West Division Championship on Friday, Feb. 26, in Grady, Alabama.
