The visiting Bishops run past the Panthers to win 35-14

Written by: Danny Talbert

LaGrange, Ga.-- The Panthers three turnovers was not enough to overcome North Carolina Wesleyan University today (Oct. 7). LC dropped the game 35-14. The visiting Bishops led 7-0 after one quarter, 21-7 at halftime, and 35-14 after three quarters en route to victory against the host LC Panthers. The Panthers stay home to face Belhaven on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.

Offense

Although the score does not reflect it, the Panthers offense had many bright spots. Goldman Butler VI again balled out today for LC. On 14 attempts, the junior ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns. This averaged out to an outstanding 8.4 yards per carry. Junior RB Aubrey Carter also had some touches today, even breaking a season high 73 yard run to set up an LC TD. Rashod Brockington captained the offense today at QB. On 21 passes he had 11 completions for 143 yards. Although he did not throw a TD pass today, he did not make any bad throws to the opposing defense.

Defense

Freshman Demon Jones led the team in tackles today with 14. The linebacker also accounted for one tackle for a loss. As mentioned, the defense today forced three interceptions, two of which were picked off in the LC endzone. Junior LB JayDon Cooper, junior DB Jasharie Anderson and junior DB Nehemiah Ceasar each had an interception today.

Next game

The Panthers stay home to take on Belhaven next Saturday (Oct 14) at 1 p.m.
