Despite some great performances by both offensive and defensive players, a few bad plays gifted Brevard a 30-20 victory (Oct. 28). The host Panthers led 7-3 after one quarter, were trailing 27-14 at halftime, and 30-14 after three quarters on their way to dropping the game against the visiting Tornados. The Panthers hit the road for the final game of the year against Methodist at 1 p.m. (Nov. 4).
Offense
The offense had some bright spots today. The Panthers rushed for 190 yards on 38 attempts, which averages out to five yards per rush. Goldman Butler VI ran for a season high 109 yards and a pair of touchdowns today. LC also made some great passes as well as catches. On the final drive of the day for the Panthers, LC drove all the way down the field to score a touchdown. Brockington hit Devonte Scott with a great pass and Scott made an acrobatic catch in the endzone to put the score at 30-20. Rashod Brockington threw for 118 yards on 10 completions off of 23 attempts and one touchdown. The offense also dealt with some issues with turnovers. At the end of the second quarter, the offense handed the Tornados a touchdown after fumbling into the defender's hands for him to run it in for six points. Jaden Smith came in twice to run a wide receiver pass but both passes were intercepted. Despite the few mistakes, the Panthers offense showed a lot of improvement this week.
Defense
The defense today bent at times but rarely broke. The Tornados made three red zone drives that were held to a field goal each time. The defense again came up big on the LC side of the field. The Tornados were driving in the fourth quarter but were stopped when Nehemiah Ceaser picked it off on the LC 35. JayDon Cooper also had a forced fumble but it was picked up by the Tornados. Yavari Scott led the team in tackles with 11 total. He also accounted for a sack. Like the offense, the defense showed a lot of improvement in this game.
