Cross Country: Panthers race in Skyhawk Valley Invitational

Cross Country: Panthers race in Skyhawk Valley Invitational

Valley, Alabama—The LaGrange College Cross Country teams took a short road trip to Valley Saturday for the Skyhawk Valley Invitational.

Competing in the 5K, the women's team posted a seventh-place finish and was led by freshman Kennedy Young, who had a time of 21:34.5—a personal record. She was followed by teammates Lindsey Swearngin and Laurel Reese who were neck-and-neck at 24:52.1 and 25.04.9, respectively.

The LC men earned a sixth-place finish and were paced by freshman Steven Petty and sophomore Isaiah Oden who finished only 10 seconds apart with times of 30:35.7 and 30:45.9, respectively. Luke Jarvis was not far behind with a 32:06.0 finish.

"I'm really proud of how we ran as a team and individually today," said Head Coach Jasen Jonus. "It's definitely a building block for us going into our conference championship at the end of the month.

"Kennedy Young had a career record today. I'm proud of the way she came out and set the tone early and finished strong.

"Both teams came out and had a good showing today."

The teams' next meet is the Collegiate Conference of the South Championships, set for Oct. 29 at the Greenbrier Cross Country Course in Grady, Alabama.
