Huntingdon ended LaGrange's eight-game winning streak with a 4-0 win Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. It was the first game of a weekend USA South series. The Panthers are now 9-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Hawks upped their record to 8-4 and 4-3.
J.R. Robinson (4-1) took his first loss of the season. Robinson allowed two runs over 7-1/3 innings. He scattered nine hits, walked none and struck out four. Robinson worked out two bases loaded jams, allowing only a run. He retired the Hawks in order one time.
Huntingdon's Carden Mellown (4-1) threw a complete game two-hitter. He allowed only a two-out double to Cael Chatham in the second and a one out single to Jack Layrisson in the seventh. Mellown walked two and struck out three.
The Hawks carried a 1-0 lead into the eighth. Robinson departed after surrendering a one-out double in the eighth. The Hawks capitalized on three hit batters by relievers Will Queen and Tanner Chafin to push across three runs to build a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers were shut out for the first time since a 2-0 loss to Maryville on March 16, 2018, a span of 82 games.
The teams close out the series with a doubleheader Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.
