LaGrange completed a series sweep of Eastern Mennonite on Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers (12-1) spotted the Royals (2-8) an early lead and roared back for a 10-3 win.
Matt Eden led LC's 12-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and had two RBIs. Jorge Fragoso had two hits and three RBIs. Jared Aldridge, Cael Chatham, and Joe Ruth also had two hits each. Aldridge also scored three runs and had an RBI.
The Royals, aided by a Panther error, scored two unearned runs in the first inning. They added another to make it 3-0. The Panthers got a run in the fourth and another in the sixth to make it 3-2.
LC broke through with a five-run seventh inning. Chatham, Aldridge, and Fragoso had RBI singles in the inning. The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning. Eden capped his day with a run-scoring double in the inning.
Ethan Fry started for the Panthers on the mound. He allowed five hits, three runs but only one earned, in two innings. Michael Menhart threw 3-2/3 scoreless innings, before giving way to Jack Richards. Richards (2-0) got the win, pitching 2-1/3 shutout innings, while walking one and striking out four. Ethan Kramer retired the Royals in order in the ninth.
The Panthers are on the road next weekend for a three-game series at N.C. Wesleyan. The Panthers defeated the Bishops in last season's USA South Tournament championship series.
