LaGrange baseball head coach David Kelton is the USA South Baseball Coach of the Year for 2022 as announced by the conference Thursday. He was the conference coach of the year in 2017 also.
Kelton is in his ninth season with the Panthers. He has a career-record of 227-117 with three USA South regular season championships, four conference tournament championships, and four NCAA Division III regional appearances. Kelton's 2017 team set numerous school records, finishing 40-6 and were ranked No. 1 during the season. LC has had three All-Americans and 31 USA South All-Conference selections under Kelton.
The Panthers are 32-6 this season and captured the top seed from the West Division with a 15-3 conference record. The Panthers are currently ranked fourth in the Collegiate Baseball American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division 3 poll and fifth in the D3Baseball.com Top 25 poll. LC is the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III Region VI. The Panthers have been ranked nationally since the end of the first week of the season.
The Panthers are the top seed for the USA South Tournament Bracket #2 starting today. The Panthers are going for a fifth consecutive tournament championship.
