MONTGOMERY, Ala. – LaGrange (0-17) nabbed a set but that would be all as they fell by a 5-0 score at Huntingdon (13-6) in an NCAA beach volleyball match on Wednesday, March 8.
Huntingdon wasted no time building on their 1-0 lead from the No. 5 forfeit with Ashlen Janowski and Reece Rhodes notching a 21-8, 21-5 win over senior Bailey Moss (Jupiter, Fla.) and freshman Zentrina Choice (Sumter, S.C.) at the top spot.
That lead would grow to 3-0 as freshman Riley Morgan (Jackson, Ga.) and junior Carmen Hamilton (Alpharetta, Ga.) dropped a 21-9, 21-12 decision at No. 2 before Caroline Foote and Bea Lindquist produced a 21-8, 21-8 decision at the fourth position.
The most competitive match of the day would come at No. 3 and feature a set victory from freshmen Morgan Martin (Chelsea, Ala.) and Alexis Childers (Adairsville, Ga.). In that one they dropped a 21-15 decision to Ariel Helmick and Eva Ellenburg before pulling out a 21-18 victory in the middle match. HC would then dominate the rubber game as they posted a 15-7 decision to close out the 5-0 sweep.
The Panthers will close out the season next weekend with four matches in Rome, Georgia. LC will face opposite ends of the spectrum as they take on defending national champion Stevenson (10 a.m.) and first-year program Lynchburg (1:30 p.m.) on Friday, March 24 before playing Hendrix (3:15 p.m.) and homestanding Berry (5 p.m.) on Saturday, March 25.
