LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 7/9 LaGrange (18-6, 6-0 CCS) baseball opens a four-game week as they host Berry (10-17, 5-7 SAA) in the backend of a home-and-home on Tuesday, April 4. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.
The Panthers continue to be one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 10 of their last 11 games, with the only loss in that time being a narrow 6-5 decision against No. 1 Birmingham-Southern (3/22). Since then they swept Covenant (3/24-25) by scores of 9-4, 15-7, and 7-1 and topped the Vikings 4-3 on Tuesday, March 28.
Prior to last week's meeting Berry had alternated wins and losses over their last six games and that would continue with a narrow one run loss to the Panthers and an 18-12 victory over Sewanee (4/1) in the opener of a three-game series. They would then drop the next two by 5-4 and 7-5 scores on April 1 and April 2, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
LaGrange trails 10-4 in an all-time series against Berry that goes back only to 2013. The Vikings took six of the first seven meetings with the only Panther victory being a 7-6 decision in the second game in 2013. They would post a 10-9 win in 2017 before dropping the next four by a combined score of 29-10. Most recently they snapped that streak with a 7-4 win in the final meeting in 2019 and notched a 4-3 decision in Rome, Georgia last week.
