LAGRANGE, Ga. – No. 9/9 LaGrange (23-9, 10-2 CCS) baseball will take on consensus No. 1/1 Birmingham-Southern (31-5, 14-4 SAA) for the third time this season when the clubs meet in Oxford, Alabama on Tuesday, April 18. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
The Panthers enter the showdown after a 2-2 week that saw them down Oglethorpe (4/11) by a 4-1 score before dropping the doubleheader portion of a three-game set at Piedmont by scores of 7-2 and 10-3 on Saturday, April 15. They then salvaged the series with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory on Sunday, April 16.
BSC comes in with a 3-2 mark in their last five games, a stretch bookended by a 2-1 loss to Oglethorpe (4/9) and 4-0 defeat to Centre (4/16). In between they beat up on the Stormy Petrels 8-3 in the back half of their doubleheader and swept a pair from Centre, 7-1 and 20-7, on April 15.
SERIES HISTORY
LaGrange enters the game trailing 22-9 to Birmingham-Southern in an all-time series that dates back only to 2010. BSC won 12 straight from 2012 through 2018 but LaGrange won by an 8-2 score on March 23, 2022 before falling 9-5 to the then No. 4/4 ranked Panthers on February 18 in Birmingham. Most recently they dropped a narrow 6-5 decision on March 22.
