LaGrange bounced back from its first loss of the season to edge Oglethorpe 2-1 at Cleaveland Field on Wednesday. It was the second win of the season for the Panthers (2-1) over the Stormy Petrels (2-3).
Luis Perez's sacrifice fly pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Miles Lee started the inning by reaching second on a throwing error by Oglethorpe second baseman Jake Spear.
Lee moved over to third on a Brent Kinsey's sacrifice bunt. Robbie Shelton was intentionally walked. Perez sent a long fly to left center to easily score Lee from third.
Mason Webster (1-0) retired the Stormy Petrels in order in the ninth to close out the win. Webster, the third Panther pitcher, pitched two innings.
Trevor Tullock started for the Panthers and allowed a run in six innings. Tullock retired the first 11 batters he faced. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five.
Henry Jacobs allowed two hits in an inning of work. In the seventh, with runners on the corners with one out, he got Matt Cornwell to hit into an inning-ending double play.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Panthers loaded the bases on back-to-back walks to Bobby Woodall and David Miller to go with an infield hit by Phil Woods. Woodall scored on Brandon Espinosa's sacrifice fly to right center.
The Panthers had only four hits in the game. Shelton had two of the hits, including a double. Oglethorpe finished with seven hits, with Neal Amos having a pair of singles.
