ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - LaGrange blasted N.C. Wesleyan 15-0 on Friday afternoon at Bauer Field. The Panthers improved to 5-2 for the season, while the Bishops slipped to 3-6.
The Panthers banged out a season-high 23 hits, including three home runs, off four Bishop pitchers. Robbie Shelton hit his second home run of the season, while Brent Kinsey and Bobby Woodall hit their first home runs of the season.
Shelton finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored and four RBIs. Kinsey also had three hits, while scoring five runs and driving in another two runs.
Shelton and Kinsey were two of five Panthers with three hits in the game. Matt Hvizdzak, Kevin McCrary and Luis Perez joined Shelton and Kinsey. Hvizdzak had a pair of doubles, while McCrary scored three runs.
Neal Smith (1-1) went seven innings to even his season record. Smith allowed five hits, walked four and struck out eight. Henry Jacobs and J.J. Martone each pitched an inning to close out the shutout.
The Panthers led 4-0 after two innings. Kinsey's double and Shelton's two-run home run in the fifth pushed the Panthers' lead to 7-0.
The Panthers put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth to go up 12-0. Kinsey led off the eighth inning with a home run.
The Panthers added three more runs in the ninth inning to make it 15-0. Woodall closed out the scoring with a pinch-hit two-run home run.
The Panthers play at Methodist on Saturday and Sunday.
