LaGrange topped DePauw 10-6 on Monday at Cleaveland Field. It was the fifth straight win for the Panthers, now 16-7. The Tigers dropped to 7-12 with their seventh straight loss.
The Panthers had nine hits in the game and took advantage of six walks by Tiger pitching. David Miller was the only Panther with two hits. Jason Cohen led the Tigers' 12 hit attack with three hits.
Robby Williams (4-1) got the win in relief of starter Trevor Tullock. Williams allowed two runs in three innings, walked one and struck out one. Tullock gave up two runs, only one earned, in two innings.
Doug Scherer followed Williams with three shutout innings without allowing a hit. Bobby Woodall allowed two runs in the ninth before Mason Webster got the final out.
The Panthers broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the third inning. Miller (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) drove in the first run with a single and Travis Ross (1-for-3, 2 R, RBI) followed with an RBI double.
Kevin McCrary (1-for-3, RBI) added an RBI single and Phil Woods (1-for-2, R, 2 RBI) brought in the last run of the inning with a sacrifice bunt.
The Tigers got a run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to cut the Panthers' lead to 6-4. The Panthers came back with four runs in their half of the fifth to up their lead to 10-4.
Woods and Matt Hvizdzak (1-for-4, R, RBI) had back-to-back RBI singles. Miles Lee ((1-for-4, 2 RBI) capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle.
The Panthers will play their next 10 games on the road. They return home on April 15 against GSAC foe Huntingdon.
