Sophomores Casey Bell and Cain Sauls helped LaGrange take its USA South series from Greensboro with a 10-3 win Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.
Bell drove in five runs with four hits that included a pair of doubles. Sauls raised his batting average to .397 by going 5-for-5 as the Panthers (12-16, 11-10 USA South) finished with 16 hits.
The Panthers scored 33 runs in the three games, batting .366 as a team. Sauls was 9-for-13 for a .692 average. Jim Redd was 7-for-13, while Bell was 7-for-14.
The Panthers opened the first inning with four straight hits to grab a 3-0 lead. Reed opened the inning with a single and Keith Sims doubled down the right field line. Bell's double to right center drove in both runners and Sauls followed with an RBI single as Bell scored.
The Panthers built a 6-0 lead with a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Bell had an RBI single in the second, while Chad Pigg had a run-scoring hit in the third and James Poropatic drove in a run with a double in the fourth.
Greensboro (11-18, 10-14 USA South) cut the Panthers' lead in half with three runs off Zack English (4-2) in the fifth.
English pitched 5-1/3 innings, allowing the three runs and scattering six hits. He walked three and struck out one. Jonathan Fleckenstein got the final two outs in the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh. Blake Schuck closed out the game with two shutout innings.
The Panthers added an unearned run in the seventh to go up 7-3. They put the game out of reach with three runs in the eighth. Bell capped his day with a two-run double and later scored as Poropatic flied out to center for the 10-3 final.
The Panthers play Oglethorpe on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
