For the second straight week, LaGrange senior right-hander Doug Scherer is the USA South Pitcher of the Week. Scherer becomes the first conference player this season to win back-to-back weekly honors.
Scherer pitched a complete game in leading the Panthers to a 3-2 win over nationally-ranked Christopher Newport in his only appearance last week. He allowed both the runs and four of the Captains' eight hits in the first inning. Scherer walked just one and struck out nine.
For the season, Scherer is 4-1 with a 1.50 earned run average. He is tied for fourth in the conference with 38 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched.
