ZEBULON, N.C. - LaGrange's run at the USA South Tournament ended with a 10-2 loss to Methodist in the championship game Sunday at Five County Stadium.
The Panthers (20-17) had won four straight games in the tournament after losing their opener. The Panthers had three seniors named to the All-Tournament team: Cody Muren, second base; Josh Shiver, third baseman and Robby Williams, pitcher.
Shiver led off the game with a single. He moved over to third on a ground out and fly ball, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Methodist came back with two runs in both the second and third off of Panther starter Patrick Riley to take a 4-1 lead. The Panthers got a run back in the fifth inning.
Jim Reed singled to lead off the inning. He came around to score on Brent Kinsey's two-out double down the left field line to make it 4-2.
Methodist answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Monarchs closed out the scoring with four runs in the eighth inning for the 10-2 final.
The Panthers host Covenant on Friday and Saturday for a doubleheader.
