The LaGrange men's tennis team is fourth in the USA South West Division coaches poll as released by the conference office Tuesday. The Panthers are starting their first season under new head coach Drew Cantrell.
Covenant is picked to repeat as the West Divison champion, receiving five first place votes. The Scots are followed by Piedmont, who had two first place votes, Huntingdon, and the Panthers.
The Panthers were 4-3 during last year's abbreviated season, including 3-2 in USA South play. They return five players for 2022. Junior Al Robertson has the most experience of the returners. Robertson was 4-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play at #3 singles.
N.C. Wesleyan is the preseason favorite in the East Division. The Battling Bishops have won 12 consecutive USA South regular season and tournament championships.
The 2022 USA South Men's Tournament will take place at the Rome Tennis Center Rome, Georgia. The top-four seeded teams from each division will advance to postseason play.
The Panthers open their season Feb. 18 at Emory-Oxford.
