ATLANTA, Ga. - Emory swept a non-conference doubleheader from LaGrange on Sunday. The Eagles (8-6) won the first game 3-0, then finished the sweep with an 11-3 five-inning second game victory.
Maggie White had two of the Panthers' five hits in Game 1. Abbey Gardner, Lindsey Green, and Karli Whitaker each had a single. Gardner (2-4) went the distance in the circle. She allowed the three runs on six hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out three.
The Panthers (2-9) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the second game. Kaitlin Redman and Kenzi Hornsby started the inning with back-to-back base hits. Both runners moved up on a double steal. Reagan Gunter walked to load the bases. Redman came in when Lindsey Swearngin also walked.
Emory came back with three runs in its half of the second, three more in the third, and two in the fourth to open an 8-1 lead. LC got two runs in the top of the fifth.
The Panthers loaded the bases on a walk, a hit batter, and an infield single. With one out, Redman walked to force in Whitaker with the first run of the inning. Pinch hitter Hailee Palmer singled up the middle to drive in White to cut the deficit to 8-3. But Emory answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the run rule.
The Panthers face Wesleyan in a doubleheader Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex beginning at 4 p.m.
