MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon swept a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Wednesday. The Panthers (8-23, 3-7 USA South) lost the first game 6-5 on walk off hit, then got blanked 11-0 in five innings in the second game. Huntingdon improved to 21-7 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Panthers came back with two runs in the third inning. Abbey Gardner's two-out single scored Lindsey Swearngin and Megan Messinger.
LC took the lead in the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Redman led off with a single and Landon DeLamar reached on an error to put runners on the corners. DeLamar stole second and Regan Gunter followed with a single to center to score both runners for a 4-3 lead. The Panthers upped their lead to 5-3 on Redman's solo home run in the fifth.
The Hawks came back with a run in their half of the fifth and another in the sixth to tie the game 5-5. In the seventh, Lydia Lewis walked, stole second, and moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt. She came home with the winning run as pinch hitter Alexis Morris reached safely on an infield hit.
The second game was all Huntingdon. The Hawks scored six runs in the first and added five more in the fourth inning to end the game on the 8-run mercy rule.
Maggie White was a perfect 2-for-2 in the second game. Lindsey Green added a double.
The Panthers play a USA South doubleheader at Wesleyan on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
