MACON, Ga. - Wesleyan swept a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Saturday. The Panthers (8-25, 3-9 USA South) lost 7-1 and 9-1 to the Wolves (17-12, 8-6 USA South).
In the first game, Wesleyan built a 5-0 lead after two innings. The Panthers got their lone run in the fourth inning. With two outs and nobody on, Landon DeLamar doubled. Reagan Gunter reached on a bunt single as DeLamar took third. Gunter stole second and DeLamar came home on an error on the play. The Wolves closed out the scoring with two runs in the sixth off Lindsey Swearngin (1-11). Swearngin went the distance, allowing the seven runs of which six were earned.
Wesleyan needed just five innings to take the second game on the 8-run rule. The Panthers got an unearned run in the first inning. Maggie White led off the game by reaching second on an error and moved over to third on a ground out. Kenzie Hornsby's double scored White for the 1-0 lead. The Wolves answered with four runs in their half of the first. They added five more runs in the fourth for the 9-1 final.
The Panthers host West Division leading Piedmont on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
