MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville swept a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Saturday. The Scots took the two games by scores of 10-1 and 10-2. The Panthers are 6-19 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Maryville (13-11, 4-0 USA South) scored seven runs in the first inning of Game 1 off Abbey Gardner (4-8). Gardner gave up all 10 runs but only four were earned. The Panthers avoided the shutout in the top of the fifth. Lindsey Swearngin stole second and Kenzie Hornsby stole home for the Panthers' run. Hornsby, Landon DeLamar, and Lindsey Green accounted for LC's three hits.
In Game 2, LC fell behind 8-0 after four innings. The Panthers did all of their scoring in the fifth. Hornsby's double drove in Swearngin, who had reached on a single. Green's RBI single brought home Hornsby with the second run of the inning. The Scots pushed across two runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game. Hornsby and Gardner had four of LC's six hits in the game.
The Panthers face Asbury in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at the LC Softball Complex beginning at 1 p.m.
