Meredith took a non-conference doubleheader from LaGrange on Saturday at the LC Softball Complex. The Panthers (3-12) lost the first game 9-0 in five innings and were edged 4-3 in the second game.
Abbey Gardner went 3-for-3, including a double and a home run, in the second game. Gardner (3-5) also pitched a complete game. She allowed the four runs, but only one was earned, did not walk a batter and struck out four.
The Avenging Angels (11-3) took advantage of four LC errors in the second game to build a 4-0 lead by the third inning. The Panthers got a run back in their half of third inning. Gardner doubled down the left field line to score Lindsey Swearngin, who had walked with two outs.
The Panthers added another run in the fourth. Landon DeLamar walked, stole second and moved over to third on Karli Whitaker's single. Maggie White's fly ball was dropped, allowing DeLamar to come in to make it 4-2.
Gardner drew the Panthers within a run in the seventh. With two outs, the junior lined her first home run of the season over the center field fence with two outs for the 4-3 final.
Meredith's Alex Daniel threw a no-hitter in Game 1. Swearngin and Whitaker were the only Panthers to reach base, both on walks. Anna Goldman had a home run and four RBIs for the Avenging Angels.
