Freshman Jack Layrisson has been selected as the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Division III National Rookie of the Week. Layrisson also was selected the USA South Baseball Rookie of the Week.
Layrisson batted .563 with 12 RBIs in the four games. He had a .579 on-base percentage, a .750 slugging percentage, with six runs scored, a double, a triple, two walks and a stolen base. Layrisson helped the Panthers take of three games against USA South foe Piedmont, going a combined 6-for-12 with five runs scored, seven RBIs, a double, two walks, and one stolen base. He is batting .325 this season with three home runs and a team-leading 32 RBIs.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
