No. 10 Trine downs Panthers 51-7

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University celebrated Homecoming with a 51-7 win over LaGrange College on Saturday at Zollner Athletic Stadium. The Thunder, ranked 10th in NCAA Division III, remained unbeaten at 4-0, while the Panthers slipped to 2-4.

Trine raced to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and led 41-0 at halftime. The Thunder had 487 yards of total offense in the game, 339 coming in the first half.

The Panthers had 282 yards of total offense. The Panthers hurt themselves with five turnovers, including an interception returned for a Thunder touchdown.

Trine took the opening kickoff and went 73 yards in four plays. Kent Biller raced 63 yards for the first Thunder touchdown of the game.

The Thunder struck on the Panthers' third play after the score. Aaron Selking picked off a Drew Carter pass and returned it 54 yards and a quick 14-0 lead.
Trine added two more touchdowns in the quarter. Watt threw 26 yards to Paul Curtis and a short 4-yard pass to Thomas Wyman to up the Thunder lead to 28-0.

In the second quarter, Watt ran 6 yards for a score and finished the half with a touchdown pass to Will Chrystal to make it 41-0. Watt was 14-for-20 for 169 yards in the half.

Watt finished his day with a touchdown pass to Thomas Wyman on the Thunder's first possession of the third quarter to make it 48-0. The pass finished a 12-play drive, covering 55 yards.

The Panthers avoided the shutout with a quick 3-play 60-yard drive later in the third quarter. Kent Gibson ran for 30 yards to the Thunder 25. He finished the drive from there, going the final 25 yards. Drake Nawhrwold added the extra point to make it 48-7.

Gibson led the Panthers with 57 yards on three carries. Carter and Michael May combined for 135 yards passing. R.J. Miles had 54 yards on seven receptions.

Anthony Cochran led the Panther defense with nine tackles. Josh Clinton had eight tackles.

The Panthers host NCAA Division II member North Greenville next Saturday at 3 p.m.
