2011 Panther football schedule released

2011 Panther football schedule released

Head football coach Todd Mooney released the 2011 LaGrange football schedule Thursday. The Panthers will compete as a NCAA Division III Independant for 2011 season.

The Panthers open the season for the fourth straight year against Birmingham-Southern on Sept. 3 at Callaway Stadium. Birmingham-Southern won 28-19 in Birmingham in 2010.

The Panthers travel to Jackson, Miss. on Sept. 10 to face Millsaps. The Panthers defeated the Majors 27-21 in overtime at Callaway Stadium in the 2010 meeting.

Maryville (Tenn.) comes to Callaway Stadium on Sept. 17. The Fighting Scots edged the Panthers 20-17 in three overtimes at Maryville last season.

The Panthers play their third home game in four games on Sept. 24 as they host North Carolina Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops were the USA South co-champions and beat the Panthers 31-17 at home in 2010.

The Panthers travel to Memphis, Tenn. for the second straight year to face Rhodes. The Panthers won the 2010 meeting 42-28. The Lynx will be under new head coach Dan Gritti.

The Panthers return home Oct. 8 to take on the Thunder of Trine. Trine won 51-7 last season in Angola, Ind. The Thunder were 11-1 last season and lost to eventual national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

After a week off, the Panthers host Trinity (Texas) for 2011 Homecoming on Oct. 22. It will be the first meeting between the Panthers and the Tigers.

The Panthers finish the 2011 season with three straight road games beginning Oct. 29 at the Apprentice School. The Panthers won the 2010 meeting with the Shipbuilders 21-14.

The Panthers take on the Hawks of Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala. on Nov. 5. Huntingdon topped the Panthers 35-28 at Callaway Stadium last season.

The Panthers close out the 2011 regular season at Ave Maria, an NAIA school, in Ave Maria, Fla. on Nov. 12. It will be the first meeting between the schools.
