The LaGrange College women's basketball team opened the season with four consecutive wins for the first time since 2017-18, as the Panthers will look to continue rolling with a 5 p.m. matchup against Brevard on Saturday in Mariotti Gym.

The Panthers (4-0, 4-0 USA South) and Tornados (0-0) have competed in some tightly contested matchups since their first meeting in 2016. Brevard has won 4 of 7 games in the rivalry and the teams split the four meetings in Mariotti.

"This is another good test for our program," said LaGrange College women's basketball head coach Jasen Jonus. "We need to play a strong 40-minute game to come out on top. Defending our home court is pivotal in terms of becoming one of the top teams in the USA South. We have done a great job so far with a 3-0 record in Mariotti this year."

The Tornados won the last meeting, 65-54, in Mariotti on Feb. 1, 2020. LC prevailed, 61-47, at Brevard on Nov. 30, 2019. The Panthers earned a 56-55 overtime win over the Tornados in Mariotti on Jan. 4, 2019. Then-sophomore Jahpera McEachin hit the game-winning layup with three seconds left.

"Even though we are 4-0, we are preparing for this game as if we are 0-4," said sophomore forward Morgan Grant. "We are working to bring the intensity every game from start to finish and that will help us win this game. We have to keep pushing each other and getting better as a team each game."

LAST TIME OUT:

The Panthers are coming off a 69-56 victory at Covenant on Saturday. LC improved to 17-6 in program history against the Scots and won its first game at Covenant since Jan. 28, 2017.

McEachin tied a career-high 25 points for the second straight game and shot 13 of 15 from the charity stripe. The 13 made free throws are tied for the seventh most in a single game in program history and are the most by McEachin in a Panther uniform.

Junior guard Jalaya Lewis recorded career-highs of 18 points and four made 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Breonna Glover tied personal-bests with seven points and nine rebounds.

JAHPERA THE GREAT:

McEachin earned USA South Player of the Week honors on Monday, becoming the first LC women's basketball player to receive the award since Marilauren Farr '19 on Nov. 19, 2018.

During the two wins over Covenant last week, the Federal Way, Washington, native averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals. She shot 18 for 22 from the foul line (81.8%) and 4 for 9 from beyond the arc (44.4%).

McEachin ranks second in the USA South in assists (9.0) and tied for sixth in points per game (19.5). She opened the 2021 season with her first two collegiate double-doubles in victories over Agnes Scott. During a 106-25 triumph on Jan. 15, the 5-foot-5 guard tied the program record for single-game assists with 14.

KEEP IT GOING JALAYA AND JADA:

Lewis is averaging the second-most points (14.8), assists (3.0) and steals (3.0) on the team. She has scored in double figures in all four games and is averaging 5.3 rebounds.

Junior captain Jada Brown tallied career-highs of 17 points, eight made field goals and five steals during a season-opening win over Agnes Scott on Jan. 15. Against Covenant, she dished out a personal-best five assists in the first game and tied a career-high eight rebounds in the second game.

HIT THOSE BOARDS:

Grant averaged 9.5 rebounds during the Panthers' two wins over Covenant. She corralled a career-high 11 boards in an 85-46 victory on Jan. 21.

McEachin pulled down eight boards in both wins over the Scots. LC has six players averaging 5.3 rebounds or more per game.

CHASING HISTORY:

Senior center Nadia Montour ranks fourth in program history in career blocks (50). She blocked four shots against Covenant on Jan. 21, tied for the most in her career and sixth most in a single game in program history.

Montour's 25 blocks during the 2019-20 season are tied for the eighth most in a single season inside the team's record book.

UP NEXT:

The Panthers are scheduled to play Piedmont on Friday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. in Mariotti.
