In its inaugural game of the 2022-23 season, the LaGrange College Women's Basketball team came up short against Emory 79-57.
The Panthers came out shooting cold, and had a hard time overtaking the Eagles. The team hit only 28% of its field goals for the evening.
"We played a very talented team to start the year," said Head Coach Jasen Jonus. "They came out with more fire and energy than we did."
Down 44-26 at the half, the Panthers managed to narrow the margin to 10 with a 19 point third-quarter surge, making it 55-45.
But the Eagles pulled ahead again in the fourth, leaving the final at 79-57.
LC was led in scoring by freshman Amanda Mclendon with 13 points, followed by sophomore Kendra Roberts with 11.
Mclendon also led the team with 10 rebounds, followed by Freshman Laila Battle with six.
The Panthers have a few days to recover before hitting the road again to face Berry on Saturday.
"We have to learn from this loss and get better for our next stretch of games coming up this weekend," said Coach Jonus. "I'm excited for this team once everything clicks."
