ATLANTA—A Panthers vs. Panthers matchup was a one-sided affair as the LaGrange contingent fell 81-35 to the DI opponent on Tuesday.
LC fell behind early and fought to stay in the contest. Aggressive play by GSU accompanied by 20 turnovers proved to be too much for the visiting Panthers.
"A tough-fought game," said Head Coach Jasen Jonus. "We played well the second and third quarters and kind of gave up in the fourth. Still, it gets us ready for conference after Christmas.
"This break will help our team regroup and be ready for the long stretch to contend for a championship."
LaGrange was down by 12 after the first period, and that margin continued to grow as the game progressed.
The score stood at 36-16 at the half, but LC stayed in the fight until GSU took control in the final six minutes—not allowing any more LC scoring.
Zyhia Johnson led the LaGrange effort, scoring 12 points and adding four assists. Laila Battle was close behind with 11 points, and Amanda Mclendon led the team with 9 rebounds.
The team will take a holiday break and returns to action on Dec. 30 in a home game against Salisbury at 2 p.m.
