LaGrange is ranked fourth in the 2022-23 Collegiate Conference of the South Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll released by the conference today.
Berea is first in the poll with 58 points and five first place votes. The Mountaineers were 22-6 last season and was the USA South Tournament runner-up. Piedmont (53), Maryville (50), then LC with 47 points follow Berea.
The Panthers were 15-10 last season, including a 10-5 record in the USA South. Jasen Jonus is beginning his third season as LC's head coach. He has an 23-14 record with the Panthers.
"I am very excited to start our season next week," said Jonus. "Our team has worked hard this preseason to reach our goals of becoming a better a team each day. We have a great group of returners and newcomers that are eager to hit the ground running. We have a tough conference schedule after Christmas and this poll is motivation to continue to go to work each day to become better."
LC returns a quartet of seniors for the 2022-23 season, led by guard Gracie Brunel. Brunel was a first team USA South West Division selection. She was fifth in the USA South in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game. Brunel had a team-leading 62 steals and was third with 62 assists.
Forward Breonna Glover averaged 10.5 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. She led the team with 16 blocks. Center Jada Strickland averaged 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She was second to Glover with 14 blocks. Guard Jada Brown was limited to just eight games due to an injury last season.
The Panthers open the season Nov. 8 at Emory.
