MACON, Ga. – LaGrange (12-4, 6-1 CCS) dominated from the opening tip as they demolished Wesleyan (0-13, 0-9 CCS) 81-50 in an NCAA Division III women's basketball game on Sunday, January 22.
A pair of freshman forwards in Skylar Edwards (Canton, Ga.) and Amrita Singh (Canton, Ga.) led a balanced Panther attack with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while sophomore guard Zyhia Johnson (Homerville, Ga.) added 12 on 6-of-8 shooting. Freshman forward Amanda McLendon (Orlando, Fla.) added six points and a team-high seven boards and senior forward Breonna Glover (Macon, Ga.) rounded out the top performers with six caroms.
LC would deliver on offense and defense over the first 10 minutes as they notched a 17-8 lead after the opening frame before doubling down in both areas in the second quarter. They would limit the Wolves to just six points while scoring 26 themselves to take a robust 43-14 lead into the break.
It would be a more evenly balanced effort in the third quarter as Wesleyan managed to keep within five for the quarter, 22-17, but still found themselves down 65-31 entering the fourth. That final period would see WC hold a narrow advantage at 19-16, a margin that would only pull them to within 81-50 by the final buzzer.
Leading the way for the Wolves would be Jamila Ra-Hashim as she erupted for a game-high 32 points, 8-of-15 of that from beyond the arc, while Kira Williams added eight points, three steals and three boards. Gabby Barnwell chipped in with five points and seven caroms.
LaGrange returns to action on Wednesday, January 25 when they travel to Piedmont. Game time is slated for 5 p.m. Demorest, Georgia.
